Wednesday Stuff

Today's Doodle prompt is Water

Photobucket

I haven't seen my Geese since Friday, although my neighbor saw them Saturday evening. No sign of them since then. The goslings started flying a week ago and I was wondering if they would migrate this late in the year. I think that perhaps Tropical Storm Fay convinced them it was time.

It's bittersweet for me. Last year was the first year the parents had goslings. There were just two and they both fell victim to the Swamp before 2-1/2 weeks. This year there were three goslings - Huey, Dewey and Louie - and all three of them made it to flight this year!

Papa Goose and Mother Goose did a magnificent job caring for them this year! I expect that next year they will likely have more than three goslings. Also, I expect that Huey, Dewey and Louie will return with their parents, perhaps even with their own mates!

I'm just so sad that they've gone. They should return by February or March. I'm already looking forward to that day!

UPDATE: 10:05 AM: They're still here! Woo Hoo! I still know that they may be leaving, but they're here now!

Happy Wednesday, y'all!

How exciting you have their return to look forward to in the Spring. I would love to have geese around here and be able to watch them raise their young.

Awe, that is kinda sad. I feel like they are part of my extended family! It appears Fay may indeed have nudged them on their way. Maybe thats what I need, a good storm to blow the kids back to school!!!LOL

Soo sweet! I hope our loner turkey "Fred" will return this winter. She has been visiting us for 2 winters now, always alone.

I am not sure where you are, but this is prime Canadian Goose time here in Southern Oregon. The fields of corn are being harvested and they feast on the remains. They fly in big formations over the house as they move from field to field.

Happy WW!

Once they find that perfect spot, they come back year after year...

Love your ‘doodles’ … (note to self: learn how to do this thing). Of course the geese will return, but I understand your feelings as they move on.
Hugs and blessings,

Barb, I think your geese may come here! We have an annual influx of Canadian Geese, just flocks and flocks of them. They rest on the playa lakes at night and eat in our cotton, corn, sunflower and maize fields during the day. They make daily flights around the city, filling the autumn air with their music. My family "compete" to see who spots the first Canadian geese of the season and my sister told me just yesterday morning that she heard and saw a small flock yesterday morning! They are our harbinger of fall.

Another pretty header on your blog :o)
It seems to soon for geese to leave. And for leaves to turn colors and fall. This used to happen at the end of September... Have a good night :o)

Did you know?

Each day 10,000 humans are born in the U.S. - and each day 70,000 puppies and kittens are born. As long as these birth rates exist, there will never be enough homes for all the animals. As a result, every year 4 to 6 million animals are euthanized because there are no homes for them.

What can you do to stop the suffering?

Spay and neuter your pet! In addition to saving lives, spaying and neutering can also drastically improve your pet's health and life expectancy. The idea that pets become fat or lazy when they are spayed or neutered is a myth. Sterilized pets lead healthier, longer lives. Spaying a female eliminates the possibility of uterine and ovarian cancer and greatly reduces the risk of breast cancer. Neutering a male reduces the risk of both prostate enlargement and prostate cancer. Neutering also will make your pet more affectionate and less likely to roam, get in fights, or become lost.
